The Why

We’ve gained many new followers in the last week. So I thought it might be a good time to discuss why behind Joy by Jennifer. 

Jennifer, the star of Joy by Jennifer, has Down syndrome. She’s 21 years old and loves birthdays!!! 

As she approached her 21st birthday, I noticed that she was becoming isolated from our family and sleeping a lot. I began to worry that she was depressed. 

Jennifer had been accustomed to spending 3-4 days per week volunteering, but that had been cut down to one day due to some life changes in our family. She needed something new to give her purpose and bring her joy. 

I prayed a simple prayer asking God to show me what we could do to help Jennifer. God reminded me of Jennifer’s love for birthdays and especially birthday cards.

At her 21st birthday party, I asked her guests to write addresses and birthdates on note cards so that Jennifer could begin sending birthday cards to them. Word spread and we started getting additional requests. 

My husband and I could see the light coming back to Jennifer’s eyes. She was excited as the new months came around because she had been waiting expectantly to send more cards. 

What started as something to help her find purpose and spread joy to others has brought more joy to our family than we could ever truly express. 

Thank you to each of you who has taken the time to read our posts or watch one of her videos. Thank you to the ones who have purchased supplies, made donations or purchased a shirt. You are making a difference in her life! You are making a difference in our lives. 

Because of each of YOU, our girl has a sparkle in her eyes again!!!
